CRICKET PROGRAMS & PATHWAYS

"Your game. Your pace. Your path."

Our Pathways

At Bangor Barden Ridge Cricket Club (BBRCC), we proudly offer cricket opportunities that support every type of player – from first-time juniors discovering the game to competitive seniors striving for their next premiership.

We understand that no child is playing for Australia at 10 years old, but every elite athlete once fell in love with their sport as a child. That’s why we focus on what matters most at this age: building a lifelong passion for cricket through fun, support, and community.

Whether your child wants to enjoy the game socially, take on competitive challenges, or pursue representative honours, we’re here for the journey. This approach is at the heart of our BBRCC DNA Program.

The BBRCC DNA Program

We believe great cricketers aren’t born — they’re developed over time through care, community, and opportunity. Our DNA Program focuses on more than just skills; it’s about building a player’s cricketing identity, from their very first ball to their final over.

DNA stands for Development, Nurture, and Aspiration — the three pillars that shape our approach at every level.

Development

We provide age-appropriate coaching, match formats, and structured progression. From fun-based starter programs like Woolworths Cricket Blast to competitive junior grades and representative cricket, players are supported with clear goals and high-quality coaching at every step.

Nurture

Every player grows at their own pace. We create a safe and positive environment where enjoyment, effort, and teamwork are prioritised. Our coaches and volunteers mentor each child not just as an athlete, but as a young person — encouraging personal growth, resilience, and respect.

Aspiration

Not every player aims for elite cricket — but for those who do, we’re ready to support them. Our pathway includes opportunities to trial for representative teams and participate in our BBRCC Academy Program, while also celebrating those who simply enjoy playing each weekend with friends.

Why It Matters

We remind families that cricket at a young age is about joy, not pressure. Our role is to help each player fall in love with the game and feel confident in their own journey — whether that leads to higher honours or happy weekends with mates.

At BBRCC, we don’t just develop players —
we shape a cricketing identity that lasts a lifetime.

PROGRAMS

Woolworths Cricket Blast Programs

The perfect starting point for young cricketers:

  • Junior Blasters (Ages 5–7): Focuses on fun, movement, and basic cricket skills in a safe, inclusive environment. Great for first-timers!

  • Master Blasters (Ages 7–10): Builds on foundational skills with modified games and more structured activity. Ideal for kids ready to play but still learning the ropes.

These programs run locally and are the first step in our BBRCC pathway.

Junior Cricket Pathways (SSJCA)

BBRCC proudly competes in the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association (SSJCA), offering age-based teams from Under 10s to Under 16s. Teams are placed in divisions to suit experience and ability, allowing both social and competitive cricketers to thrive.

The SSJCA pathway supports players aiming for representative selection, while also ensuring all juniors are supported to enjoy and grow within the game — at their pace.

Girls Cricket Opportunities

BBRCC is deeply committed to growing the game for girls. We offer several options through the SSJCA:

  • Girls-Only Saturday Competitions: A fantastic and supportive format tailored for fun, skill development, and teamwork among girls.

  • Mixed Competition: Girls are welcome — and thrive — in our Saturday mixed-gender teams.

  • Slayers Program: Talented female players aged 13–18 can trial for the SSJCA Slayers development squad, which provides elite coaching and access to pathway opportunities across NSW Women’s Cricket.

Representative Cricket Opportunities

Players showing exceptional commitment and performance may be selected to represent the SSJCA in inter-district competition (U10–U16). These teams are stepping stones to elite junior cricket in NSW and offer invaluable experience against top-level opposition.

For Under 16 boys, the pathway continues through the Sutherland District Cricket Club AW Green Shield team — a prestigious Sydney Grade Cricket representative side that has launched the careers of many professional cricketers. BBRCC players have proudly gone on to represent Sutherland at this level, a testament to our strong development program and coaching support.

BBRCC Academy Program

For players looking to accelerate their development, the BBRCC Academy Program is a targeted 6-week course led by a qualified Level 2 Coach, Dean Parker, who will run players through his Sydney Thunder Academy program.

Designed for committed junior players, the Academy focuses on high-level skill development, game awareness, physical preparation, and mindset coaching — all in line with Cricket NSW’s best practice frameworks. It’s an ideal next step for players ready to challenge themselves and grow.
